Phobia

The physiological effects of phobias are highly overlooked. You must understand the impact of Phobia because it could lead to anxiety when it is not attended to. The problem with anxiety is that it opens doors to other physiological and physical issues.

However, you don’t have to worry, as the first step to dealing with a phobia is identifying what type you are suffering from.

“When you explore your fears, then you set yourself free,” Stephen Richard once said. That is why you need to get yourself fixed.

Imagine you constantly get triggered by the presence of an object or situation you fear; this can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). That is why it is necessary to eliminate every fear, which is impossible in a single day.

A phobia is an intense fear or irritation of something or a cause which may lead to Panic. Individuals with a phobia of something or a cause exhibit panic of various forms. A constant episode of this panic may lead to psychological issues.

There are three major types of Phobia. They include; Specific Phobias, Special Phobias and Agoraphobia. They are further broken down into different types. Some of these Phobias are sometimes not attended to as many see them as typical and not life-threatening. However, they may leave a lasting psychological effect.

The most common types of Phobias are the Specific phobias which include; the fear of height (Acrophobia), the fear of flying (Aerophobia), the fear of driving a car (Driving Phobia), the fear of insects (Entomophobia) and the fear of public speaking (Glossophobia).

Phobias are anxiety disorder that leads to more significant issues.

How Does Phobia Affect One’s Mental Well-Being?

As stated earlier, Phobia can easily affect our lives, and many people take it as usual and move on. However, the long time effect can lead to a depressing time and even you get to miss out on your daily activities.

Imagine someone who fears being rejected or judged (anthropophobia) might develop anxiety and even result in other mental issues that might be life-threatening. It is easy to walk away from these triggers; meanwhile, they would still resurface, and with the constant occurrence, this is a red flag for your mental health.

How Can I Deal With Phobia?

You can either avoid whatever is causing fear or permanently deal with it by getting comfortable with it. There is a common saying that you face your fears. For every fear, there is a treatment. Most Phobias are treatable, and some are curable.

There are several ways to treat Phobias; some need you to take medication, while others can just do some self-help techniques. These techniques may include relaxation, visualisation and self-help groups.

However, the typical type of treatment is Psychotherapy, where you need to talk to a mental health professional. They may subject you to Exposure Therapy, which helps you to control how you respond to fear.

Cognitive behavioural therapy is another very effective psychotherapy. It involves talking with a professional and identifying irrational thinking patterns and behaviours that free one from fear. This therapy type teaches you to be confident instead of gracing fear.

If one continuously lives in fear, the psychological effect could be more grievous than you think. Seek help, and talk about it.
