Civil & Commercial Mediation

Civil & Commercial Mediation

Civil and commercial disputes are slow, expensive and draining, and litigation rarely improves the relationship between the parties. Mediation offers a different route: a structured, confidential conversation with an impartial third party, aimed at a settlement both sides can live with.

Mediation here is conducted by Kingsley, a Civil Mediation Council Associate Mediator and participant in the CMC Fixed Fee Scheme, by telephone, by video or in person. Nothing is imposed on you, the decision stays with the parties, and discussions are held on a without prejudice basis.

Fees: for disputes under £50,000 mediation is offered under the Fixed Fee Mediation Scheme, from £75 + VAT per party for a one hour telephone or video session, up to £445 + VAT per party for four hours. Larger or more complex matters are quoted individually. Get in touch for a quote. See all fees.

What to expect

Mediation is a structured, confidential conversation led by an impartial third party. We help the people in dispute reach their own agreement, rather than having one imposed, which keeps control in your hands and often preserves a working relationship. Sessions can be arranged in person or online.

Common questions

What kinds of dispute can be mediated?

Civil and commercial disputes of many kinds, from contract and business disagreements to workplace and neighbour matters. If you are unsure whether yours is suitable, ask and we will talk it through.

How long does mediation take?

Many disputes are resolved in a single day, sometimes in a few hours. More complex matters may need longer, which we agree in advance.

What if we do not reach agreement?

You keep all your options. Mediation does not remove your right to pursue the matter another way, though most cases that reach mediation do settle.

A Process Built Around the Dispute

The process is shaped around your dispute, its value, its complexity and the relationship between the parties, rather than forced into a fixed format.

A Confidential Setting

Discussions are confidential and held on a without prejudice basis, so both parties can explore options openly and test possible settlements.

Impartial Throughout

Kingsley acts as an impartial mediator rather than as an adviser or advocate for either side. Any agreement reached is the parties’ own.

Fixed Fees for Smaller Claims

For disputes under £50,000 there is a published fixed fee scheme, so both parties know the cost before they begin.

Mediation can settle a dispute in hours rather than months, at a fraction of the cost of litigation and without the strain of a hearing. Both parties need to agree to mediate; once they do, a date can usually be arranged quickly. Mediation is arranged by enquiry rather than through the online booking form, so please get in touch with brief details of the dispute and it will be quoted and scheduled from there.

Everyone is welcome here. Marking Therapy is an inclusive, affirming practice for people of every background, ethnicity, culture, faith, gender, sexuality and relationship style. Sessions are for adults aged 18 and over.

Have a Question?

Before you enquire: for the initial conflict check, please share only the names of all parties and representatives, the broad dispute type and value, the current stage, your preferred format and possible dates. Please do not send evidence, detailed allegations or confidential case documents until we confirm that the conflict and suitability checks are complete.
