Access and Adjustments

Marking Therapy wants the practical side of getting help to be as easy as the decision to ask for it. This page says what can be adjusted, how to ask, and what to do if the website or the booking system does not work for you.

What can be adjusted

  • Session format: video, telephone or in person, and switching between them at any point.
  • Session length and pace, including shorter sessions or breaks within a session.
  • Written summaries after sessions, on request.
  • Plain language and slower speech.
  • Camera off for part or all of a video session.
  • A support person present, arranged with you in advance. Sessions are held in English and an interpreter is not provided for therapy; for mediation, an interpreter can be arranged on request at the client’s own cost.
  • A quiet in person venue. If step-free access or anything else about the building matters to you, say so when you book and the venue is chosen with that in mind.

How to ask

Use the notes box on the booking form or the message box on the contact form, telephone +44 191 249 6127, message on WhatsApp +44 7729 242161, or email support@markingtherapy.com. Nothing is refused for being unusual; where something cannot be provided, that is said plainly and an alternative is offered.

If the website or the booking system does not work for you

Every session can be booked by telephone or email instead of online. If a form on this site is not accessible with the software you use, telephone or email and the same information is taken by hand. The site is built to work with keyboards and screen readers and is tested at phone, tablet and desktop sizes; if something fails, say so and it is fixed.

Identity-aware practice

Marking Therapy works with people of every background, culture, faith, gender, sexuality and relationship style, and does not ask anyone to explain or justify who they are. The name you go by and your pronouns are used from first contact. Where a particular experience is outside the therapist’s competence, that is said, and a referral is offered. Affirming work with LGBTQIA+ clients and with people of diverse genders, sexualities and relationship styles is part of the practice’s work, as the About page describes.
